These are original dolls and ball-jointed dolls made from stone powder clay, one-of-a-kind pieces with cloth pasted onto the clay.
This tiny doll fits in the palm of your hand and is designed to resemble a goldfish mermaid.
Inspired by old black and grey cloth, I created a doll with a soft, Japanese feel.
Some parts are made using ball-jointed doll structure and are rubberized so they can be posed and removed from the wooden display stand for added enjoyment.
The human parts are covered with Edo Chirimen silk (100% silk).
The face is painted with pastels and Acrylic, the hair is made of embroidery thread, and the forehead ornament is made of sea glass collected while beach combing; it can be removed along with the clothing around the shoulders.
The bow and arrow he is carrying on his back are also handmade, carved from bamboo chopsticks and toothpicks. These can also be removed.
The lower half of the fish body is made of antique silk crepe fabric.
The antique cloth used is cut and pasted down with mainly auspicious patterns and plant patterns, and the edging of the tail fin is made with Ise kumihimo. All of the threads and accessories were selected to match the atmosphere of the antique cloth.
The amount of old cloth is limited, and the scraps used in this work have a small area, making it difficult to get the same pattern and therefore impossible to create two identical pieces.
The original dolls are also made from clay, so each one is slightly different.
