Rare Antique Heart Vesta Case, Birmingham 1900. Made of 925 Sterling Silver by W H H (William Hair Haseler), featuring official hallmarks (Anchor/Lion). This piece embodies the early Edwardian/Art Nouveau transitional style. It functions as a safe match container with a striking surface on the bottom. It is designed for "old-fashioned friction matches" from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century. This kind of match head contains complete ignition chemical components, which can be burned directly on the metal friction surface; while modern safety matches need to rely on the red phosphorus friction strip on the side of the box to be ignited, so they cannot be used together.
