We are often asked, "How is side-swing embroidery different from machine embroidery?" Regular machine embroidery is done by a machine that reads an embroidery design and stitches it automatically. Therefore, all embroidery is uniform and identical. On the other hand, "side-swing embroidery" is a craft where an artisan moves the fabric while stitching the design. Because it is made by a person, each piece has a unique expression. No two embroideries are alike, and the finished embroidery has a texture that resembles hand embroidery. It's an amazing craftsmanship that involves transferring the sketch to the fabric and stitching while looking at the original design, adjusting the up and down movement of the sewing machine needle – just imagining it is incredible. Currently, there are only about 400 people in Vietnam who can do side-swing embroidery. However, only about 50 of them can do it as a profession.
