The true beauty of the speckled stoneware clay is emphasized by the contrasting raw unglazed clay lower section against the white glaze.
I get inspiration from the location of my home studio, which is located near the beach in Thailand.
There is a small area at the bottom of the piece that is made of raw clay, but it has been sanded to be smooth.
*Approximate Size*
9.5 cm tall, 9 cm across, and holds 13.0 oz (400 mL).
All my work is thrown on the wheel and fired in an electric kiln from a small home studio in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand
They are dishwasher/microwave safe, and are coated in lead-free glazes.
Ceramic work is typically fired twice: It is Bisque fired and then Glaze fired.
I begins by wedging the clay to make sure it doesn’t have any air bubbles, and then it is thrown on the wheel head. Once the mug has dried to leather hard which usually take about 1-2 days, I will trim and add the handle.
It is then Bisque fired for 6-8 hours at around 1,830 - 1,940 F in order to make strengthen the clay and transform it into a porous state for glazing.
After I glaze my piece, the last step is glaze firing at a temperature of 2,185 - 2,232 F (I use cone 6 @ my home studio) usually taking about 24 hours, depending on kiln size and time to cool down
